I bought an AU1 Forte at 42000km about 2 years ago.
Has been fantastic until now but between in the last 10000km (between 70k and 80k service)
-Water Pump O-Ring Leak
-Transmission Extension Housing Leak
-Steering Rack Leak
-Middle Muffler Exhaust Leak (I know where/how that happened, Westfield Shoppingtown and the roof joins on the roof carpark.) They've since added bitumen either side, see this thread: Speed Bumps - Undercarriage Damage
And some other general maitenance stuff.
- Transmission Service and Flush
- Rear Pads and Rotors
- Front Pads
Ok my AUII experience with almost 39k on the clock and bought it with 17k on odo.
Warrenty Claims:
Momo Gear knob: Leather part was worn and stiching comming apart
Passenger door trim: Had an arc and didn't sit flush with the window
Front drivers side silver/grey strip
Rear Interior courtesy lamp
Costant Issues i couldn't be bothered to fix as i think the dealers will make it worse than better, classic case of if it ain't broke don't fix it:
Drivers side window chatter: Don't think theres a solution there apart from tint and new seal.
Clunky Diff: Been a fault in all AU's, the E series spec diff was much much better in this department. Only solution is a diff rebuild by a gearbox company, a replacement warrenty diff will only start clunking again after 200km. I've been in a BA XR8 manual and it was already clunking etc.
Whirring Tailshaft noise at 4th and 5th + low rpm: Again a compromise of the XR Aluminium tailshaft, very light so therefore unspeed limited and runs like magic at high speed.
Overall i'm very happy with the car. Yes there are a few things to live with when one owns a Falcon, but the plus's in my opinion faaar out weight the negatives and i believe with every falcon model release they are making them better and better.

AUIII for me, 33k on odo bought brand new, one of the last production AU's
Recalls:
DCMC [insert number here] for cooling system, which I only found out about on FF
Warranty:
Right fron wheel camber readjusted
Both weathershields removed and replaced
Watts Linkage retightened
Rear Left Window Seal re taped on
Flooded side indicators
Small Deformations and positioning of tail lights
Paint runs in driver's door and rear spoiler
Also being a speed unlimited HP, I also get the diff whine. I get the occasional dash rattle, but I don't find it too annoying and only started happening after the rattle warranty ran out (funny that).
My bad experiences have mainly been with the issue of quality control, which is actually being addressed by a Ford rep tomorrow, organised courtesy of my dealer.
Certainly for a late build AUIII I wasn't expecting these issues to prop up, so I find it a little bitter sweet. Mechanically, the car has performed brilliantly so far, and has got to places where other previous cars in the family died.

My AUII XR6 HP (30800 odd k's on the clock, owned her from new) never fails to impress me so far (with the small exception of the gearbox 'issue' im having at present...though the dealer just called and said they think a clutch adjustment will fix that but im not sure sure it will...). The car is a pleasure to drive...and mine's in original form as well: NoMods(tm)

Care to elaborate a little for us on this one mate?
AU XR8 S111 bought last September Demo 3,500klms now has 37000klms. Used for work and private.
Mechanically spot on which is great to date......
Darkhorse I understood the cooling system recall was for S2's not S3'3 mmmm will investigate.
Without going into detail a few niggly things but at least nothing major for now.......
Nothing like the troubles I have heard from owners of S1's.......
Its smooth to drive sounds great and best of all its not as common as an ss....wooohooo

AUII XR8, with a fairly long list, but for the shorts of this exercise, brought brand new in October 2000, and since then i have had 3 overflow boxes, numerous checks of disc rotors which are now stuffed (premium discs now at 38000kms) now onto my third rear skirt due to paint defects, my Momo gear knob has the leather coming off the top of it (so I will take a leaf out of XR_Stryders book and have that looked at). And coming home from the coast last night I had the pin that holds the disc pads fall out and damage my rims. Also have my secong steering rack in there now.
Thats just a few that I can mention right now.
But I have been pleased with the car. but sometimes these things just p.i.s.s you off.

I had my Fairmont Wagon in today, for warranty ,as the rear part of the cargo blind was coming unglued. I got a new blind, not a fix job.
My dealer told me about the recall notice on the cooling system this was also done.. I hadn't noticed any cooling problems. Temp stayed around the 1/4 mark. What was the problem ?
