my eb2 xr8 has an x after the numbers on the plates and the chassis. i bought the vehicle of the original owner and this x appears on all of the cars paperwork from new.the car has never been pranged as i checked all the manufacture dates stamped on the gaurds.the build date is 9/93 does this x mean anything? confused as i have been looking at other xr's and havent seen any others with an x in the vin.

I still havent worked out what the various parts of the ford VIN numbers stand for!
Holden have detailed what each part of the VIN number stands for in the owners manual, whereas when I look at a ford VIN, I still cant work out what each part means
eg- Holden VIN 6H8VSK80HVL456789, 6H8- Holden prefix, VS- VS model commodore, K- executive based model, 80- wagon, H- ecotec V6, V- Automatic transmission, L- produced at Elizabeth plant in Adalaide, 456789- identification number of vehicle (no 2 r the same)

someone told me today that it might have been a tickford test vehicle or a special order because my car has everything ie.elec windows,elec roof,factory tinted glass(it had premium sound with a8 in woofer but i upgraded all that gear)a bigass transcooler but no cruise or momo wheel(what goose would order this combo) i bought it in sept 03 with 98000k on it from the original owner who had just bought a nice citrus gtp.(lucky bastard).still i would like to get a better idea from one of the many gurus on this forum.

X doesnt confirm its an Xr8 does it? do all Xrs have this in the E series?

i dont think so because every other eb/d xr6/8 i have looked at does not have an x.i didnt worry about it at the time of purchase because i thought the same, but i am deadset puzzled as to why mine has it.

Might be worth ringing Ford and asking customer service. I think they help potential old GT buyers verify originality for example.

The Ford Vin has that, the JG is the country(J) and and manufacture location(G), next two digits is the body style, next two digits is the month and year of manufacturer, the rest is the build sequence.

Example: JGSWRS12345 would be Australia, Broadmeadows, Sedan, 1994, March.

Trim, colour and specific model is listed elsewhere on the VIN

yes the model code is 18234 as you say it should be.other details are eng-zx trans-w trimg2 paint e9 vin no is 6fpaaajgswpr-----x.are you a ford employee?
