You cant compare the price of a Calais to an XR6. What are VP SSs getting? I think you'll find its about the same as what ED XRs get.
ED XRs are the rarest of the lot, so that is one reason they are holding their price, and I reckon a good one wont drop much below $10k for a while, if at all. Prices havnt really changed in around 3 years, so I think they are about as low as they are going to get.

The VN is as old as '88, the ED as new as '94, so comparisons are inaccurate. The ED's Holden competitor was the VR (unfortunately for Ford!). But to answer your question, the reason the XRs are expensive is because they are sought after on the used car market. It would be just as easy to buy a Futura for $5k and spend a couple of grand on mods to go at least as fast.
The used car market appears to have an abundance of EFs at the moment, which may be the reason behind their exceptional value.

ED's, especially XR's, are my favorite E series Falcon, and going by their values perhaps I'm not the only one who has that opinion.
Desirable cars hold their value, simple as that.
Alot of Fair/Good ED xr6/8's are going for around $12000^, for several reasons;
1. A hell of alot of people prefer the EB/D look to the smoother more wussy EF,
2. As was said earlier, the ED was the shortes run of XR's, somthing like only 14 months, and around 2200 were built. This includes 6, 8 and XR8 sprint, oh and XR6 wagons.
3. Alot of ED's ive seen seem to have kept lower kays than EF's, why this is im not sure.
Me when i bought my ED XR6 5 years ago i could have got an EF with the same options/extra's etc, with 5000 more kays for the same price i paid for my ED.
The reason i didnt was i feel the ED is a nicer, tougher looking car.
XG XR was the toughest looking front end of any of the XR's IMHO.
theyre a great car overall, good power and handling and they look tuff... ya just gotta love thos quad lights!!!
back in theyre day ppl thought they were the bee's knees... theyd beat v8s no probs! plus theyre rareity helps with prices, theyre just a really nice car!
