.

Fuel economy for my ED XR6 5speed is 10-12L/100kms in the city and as low as 8.0L/100kms on the highway.

One thing I like to point out is that I much prefer the EB II XR8 to the original EB, due to it being equipped with ABS and better body rigidity (along with countless minor refinements).

If fuel economy is a top priority, perhaps something like a manual EB II or ED 4.0 S might be the most sensible compromise. But if the heart must win, the XR6 and XR8 are both great cars in their own ways. The XR6 is typically faster, while the XR8 is more refined and has one of the nicest engine notes in the business.

Why is it that the ford 6 has slowly progressed in power where as the windsor 8 hasnt had much improvements in power since its arrival in 91?

The V8 was/is fully imported, therefore more expensive to work with than the six.
