Shouldn't they be polished?

Re: Re-chroming S/steal mould's.

Gotta get a good buffing wheel and a good compound polish, i did mine on a bench grinder but i obviously changed the wheel to a metal buffing type.

They can actually be repaired if you know someone who's good on the hammer and dolly, I've seen a few repaired ones, and you wouldn't pick them.

Yeah I thought of that Fordy I've tried with a not very powerfull bench grinder, but I'll have to try with another one, I just thought if they could be rechromed, what type of polish did you use?.

Re: Re-chroming S/steal mould's.

The hardware sell it in blocks, normal cutting compound won't touch stainless. You could proberbly get them chromed, I dunno about rechromed though

Re: Re-chroming S/steal mould's.

I used a product called Mirrorfinish on some stainless strips and worked pretty good. Not sure how you would get down in Vic the distributor is in Mona Vale Sydney and the phone number is 02 99705411. Hope this helps.

Re: Re-chroming S/steal mould's.

Buy yourself 2 buffing/pollishing wheels
1 stitched wheel & 1 loose wheel
2 grades of pollishing soap
1 for deep scratches & 1 for fine scratches
I have both wheels on the bench grinder at the same time so you can go from 1 to the other
Go to any good tool centre & they should b able to help u out
