A couple of months back I posted a thread about the fuel consumption in my BA XR6 Ute I am happy to say that since then it has improved to around 9.5 ltr/100 klm on combined town highway travelling. I am still very happy with this car. The only thing that went wrong is that their was a winning noise commingfrom the engine when taking off. sounded like a jet turbine. So when I went with my dad to look at his new xr6 sedan with luxery pack at the ford dealer the machinic came out and had a listen and said that he just got a service notice yesterday from form HQ stating that all falcons with a 04/04 complience plate have a faulty tension pully. It had a flat section in it. it was changed straight away. Happy with that.
Their is also a huge difference between ute and sedan with the sedan getting around 9ltr/100 klms> It has only just ticked over 1000klms this will get better as the engine wears in.
Well my BA XR8 has an interesting economy history, It is not driven hard, but driven and has ranged from high 9's now up to 20's which is not the way it is supposed to go. Around town it gets (used to) 12.5-13.5, but we seem to have a problem, currently 15-17's now under investigation. I took it from Brisvegas to the gold coast on Friday and got 19.5l /100km, normally i get 9's so something is up Doc!!!!
My xr8 ute has just over 2000km's on it....it has been around 18-20l/100km since i got it,but this week it has gone up to 21-22,and just the same driving.
All city driving by the way.
It's a 4/04 build so i might mention that tension pully to the dealer when it goes for its 3k service.Also there is a minor knocking noise in the front end while reversing etc.

My Blueprint XR6 has now done just over 15,000 k's and is consistantley getting 9.5 l's to the 100 k's country driving and between 11 l's and 12.5l's depending how heavy my foot is around town.
I have just changed over to the BP ultima 98 and let me say having come from shell optimax my car is running heaps smoother same fuel econ just a lot smoother to drive so thanks to the members that pointed out the change to BP.

used shell optimax in my maxima (traded for xr6) a couple of times and it ran shit and fuel consumption was terrible. used to use premium alot and found better ride/economy will start putting premium in xr6 after 3000klm service
Why would the sedan use less fuel than a ute? It couldn't be weight difference... from memory the XR6 sedan is slightly heavier than the ute isn't it??
