After Getting the Ute windows tinted today i went to start it up and it was really coughing and spluttering to start up. "Oh F***" .

Started it again same thing only not as bad, I kept it running and it went back to normal. So it took it for a run to blow the cobwebs out!

My theory is that when the bloke was tinting he has depressed the accelerator a few times. I thought this would not occur as the drive by wire would only work when the car was at least on or starting.
any comments appreciated

I wouldn't think it was the cause of the problem with the DBW throttle if the ignition was turned off.

Even with a cable throttle and engine off, all its doing is opening the throttle plate, the fuel is electronically controlled so wouldn't flood the thing, carbs will of course as the acceleretor pump is generally mechanical and give a good squirt down the guts :)

Sounds like your problem could be one of 3 things;

1) OCV blocked up, the software can clean out small blockages, so it could have fixed itself by now.

2) There has been a few cases of throttle bodies out of spec causing intermiteent rough idle on start up. Turn off and back on and it fixes itslelf for a while. This is not well known. Seems to be on early production cars.

3) Even less well known is a software glitch that can happen if you turn the ignition to start and turn it off JUST before it fires, then turn it back on immediately, it can fire. If the combination and timing is just right it causes it to go into Limp Home Mode, that is running on 3 cyl. THis is hard to do, but possible. Turning it off and then back on will fix the problem.

Spot on, the stop before start glitch can be duplicated everytime, the other guy at work here has the rough idle problem and has been told it was due to blockage in the phasers

Its got 10,500kms on it and this is the first time it has happened, i think its a December build, is that early production?
I took it to work today and it seems fine, so maybe it has fixed itself?
Last tank fill i ran it on Synergy premium, Could that have anything to do with it.
By the way, What's an OCV?
Sorry about all the Questions, but it has got me a bit worried!

I have been getting rough start ups sometimes with my XR8 Ute BA. It has happend a few times in a few months. Twice the throttle body light has come down and it just idles down the road.
Can anyone shed some light ?
