Running in BA XR's - Long Trips

Has anyone else been told that you shouldn't go on long trips straight away?? I was told that you shouldn't drive them(XR6) for more than 45 minutes for the fist 1500 Kms. Has anyone else been told anything like this???

Sounds pretty odd, how would you go if you lived 2 hours away from the dealer??

Hope not...my commute's a smidge under an hour each way (and I've just ticked over 1000km)!

The "Running In" section says the run-in period is to 1500km, and...
1. don't race the engine
2. don't allow the engine to idle for excessive periods of time
3. do drive at varying speeds without straining the engine
4. avoid hard stops, except in emergencies (!)
5. avoid full throttle starts
6. don't tow a trailer weighing 500kg+

I reckon if you don't absolutely wring its neck or drive it like a granny, you'll be right.

exactally
Drive it without flogging it
vary the revs a lot
best not to sit at a constant revs all the time
up and down the range
I was told a few years ago that you also run in tyres as well
shouldnt exceed 80 km's, not hard take off's and stops for the first 100 kays

Ahh interesting,

As I plan to get my xr6 on the 27th, drive and get the towbar put on, tint put on, and head on over the mountains on a 1300km round trip to dubbo Zoo..

Thought I might as well put my first thousand on it on its first weekend, so it knows what its up for...

So no one has confirmed the 45minute theory?
