Re: Rust

yeah i guess there isnt much else i can do really. so frustrating though that i now have time to finish the car off and she goes and does this to me. The guy who did the job is nice but i doubt he will claim responibility. The interior came back yesterday and looks awesome, now what am i supposed to put it in. PFFFFFT think ill go drown my sorrows.

Sounds like dust under the paint... probably happened when it was being painted. Or they are little sweat bubbles.

[qupte=freshinXR]2nd is bubbling, which i thought was way to early to happen especially in the areas that they are in. The two bubbles are at the top of the quater and front doors. No major rust in that area before.[/quote]

Unusual places for rust, so i would go with bubbling, how high are they? Take it back to the shop where you got it done

Re: Rust

if it is bubbling or dust how can i tell. The panel guy is nice but i doubt he will adimit to this problem because its looks like it will be a bitch to fix. I will call him tomorrow and see what can be done as i said its not on the road so will be hard to get an opinion.

I'd ring 'em up as an anonymous interested "future customer" and find out what sort of warranty they supply on their rust-repair/respray work.

Failing that, maybe Consumer Affairs can look into it. Jeez, for full-metal respray (and the dollars it would've cost) I'd be demanding he fix it.

The panel guy aint nice if he wont admit to this problem. Was this the $7500 job that you paid for?

Re: Rust

This happened to a mate of mine with a Mazda RX2. Spent a fortune on the paint job but the rust was not repaired at all, they just took the car back to bare metal, scraped out the rust and bogged over it before painting. Rust came back after only a few months. Unless its cut out and treated properly the chemical reaction will continue to take place and keep on rusting. Unfortunately there are a lot of @#$% head panel beaters out there the promise the earth. Only thing you can do it have the paint taken off again, repair the rust properly, inspect the work and then have it resprayed.

Re: Rust

For the money you paid. it should be spot on. Go back there and be polite about it and inquire as to what it is.

If you dont get satisfaction, ask around to find a reliable panelbeater and see what he thinks, then head back to your guy and argue some more.

Re: Rust

Did he show you the cut out rust and did you see the repair work done? I have all the rusted parts in a box given to me by the panel beater as well as pictures he took of before and after of each section. That was his idea at the time Mine was a 'tad' more than you paid but mine was proberly worse! I also have it written that any rust, bubbles, flakes etc will be fixed for 3 years Have a sticky where the bubbles are and see if there is a replaced section cut out, if you can get behind. If its bog he has done a cheapy fix. I really hope the bloke is ok and simpathetic cos I HATE people being screwed over........! Best of luck.
