I’ve got a stupid little problem with the car, but it’s so irritating that it’s driving me crazy!!!!
When I got the car, I paid $100 for the XR floormats with the blue trim. Now, just like the AU, the drivers side BA mat comes with the 2 holes for anchor clips to stop it moving around. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come with the clips themselves.
After speaking to my local Ford dealer spare parts department (not the dealer I bought the car from), I found out that no, they hadn’t been left out by mistake, the BA mats really don’t include the clips. I was further told that you can’t buy them as a spare part, and that I’d need to spend a further $100 on a set of AU mats if I wanted to get the clips.
I picked up the car on November 15th. That makes the car just over 3 months old as I write this. My problem is that the drivers floor mat, just 3 months old, is already getting wrecked. Because it has a smooth back and no clips to hold it in place, it moves around under my feet when I drive, or get in and out of the car.
The mat itself is already showing signs of excessive damage from being squashed up to various parts of the foot well after moving while I’m driving, and this past week I noticed that the XR logo (which is embroidered to a bit of cloth then stuck to the mat) is already starting to peel off at one edge.
Am I the only person who thinks this is unacceptable in a 3-month-old product?
So my question is this; do you think I can go back to the dealer and claim this as a warranty issue? I know it seems really pedantic, but it’s driving me nuts! Spare parts you buy over the counter are supposed to have a 12 month warranty, and these were fitted pre-delivery, so if I understand the rules correctly, they are supposed to be warranted for the full length of the new-vehicle warranty?
Am I correct? Can I legitimately complain about this, or do I need to just grin and bear it. I’m not enthused about the thought of having to the shell out $100 three times a year just to replace a single floor mat because Ford engaged in some dodgy bean-counter tactics to save a bit of money.
:twitch: Some velcro on the back of the mat and some on the floor will keep it in place and allows easy removal . Simple fix and works better than the clips IMHO .
JR thats not acceptable. I bought mats in my XT and the drivers side came with the clips. Without them I would have the damage you have. Thats crap. I would have thought they would come with the mats.
JR I have blue XR mats in stock and they do have the clips in with them. go back and see you dealer maybe the first ones through had the clips missing.
Same - clips included here! And it's fully understandable to be annoyed with this - being a tall bastard, there's not much I hate more than having to reach down and adjust the mat every time I get in the car, and also having to deal with a moving mat when driving "spiritedly"

What a great idea. I have the same problem with my mats (just some rubber ones from the local auto place - need rubber for catching sand and wet feet). They are always moving around. They have the little knoblie bits on the bottom, but they dont seem to grip. This solution has saved me Cheers mate :beer2: :bowd:  :cheer: :fluffy: :heydude: :wiggle:
my mats have no clips and it stays in place. if i was u i wouldnt be putting holes in your floor to fit the clips. my au fairmont had that and the screws ended up ripping out of the carpet .

Dare I suggest you don't weigh close to 130kg and exert the force I do on my mats while entering, exiting and piloting the vehicle.
As for damage to the carpet, I've had the clips in both my previous cars, and they never ripped out in the 3 years I owned each. I'd much prefer to have them.
As for whether they're supposed to be there at all or not - I had this argument with Peter Warren Spare Parts at Warwick Farm. The guy was adamant that I’d been ripped off by my dealer, but after about 10 minutes of arguing, he went out an physically looked at the stock, then went and double checked with the spare parts manager to confirm no clips.
It was memorable as one of the rare times I have ever received a both genuine and sincere apology from someone involved with after sales work from Peter Warren.
This was further confirmed for me by Cumberland Ford at Blacktown today – AU has clips, BA does not. If you got a BA and have them, they used AU mats (which both dealers told me are EXACTLY the same).
61sg: Are you sure they’re BA mats and not AU ones? Could you get me the part number if at all possible please.
MrSparkles: As AP said, EL’s don’t count. EL’s had them in both driver AND passenger mat I’ve been told, this was then cut down to driver only in AU. Now we’re really scraping the bottom of the penny pinching barrel with BA.
Even the spare parts manager at Cumberland Ford today said I should go back to my original dealer and demand the clips for the mats. He also suggested (without actually admitting it outright) that it should be covered under warranty.
yes they are BA mats part no' is; BA F13002 FA which is a 4 piece blue XR mat set and they have different clips to the old AU type
they mats are different shape to AU ones anyway.
they are a flat piece of plastic 40mm x 25mm with a corkscrew shape on one end and on the other face at the other end is a foot shaped lug.

Yes i must admit i was abit annoyed when i got the AUII XR mats and finding that they ditched the clips on the passenger side. I also noted that the carpet are thiner than the E Series ones.
From memory i think Mr Sparkles (Mat Man ) got the AUII Mat's with the Blue XR logo like mine.
Jase, I'm sure if your mats are showing bad wear you can claim it under Ford express warrenty.
On a lighter note i gues i have to look for a partner thats light so the passenger mat doesn't get destroyed. :insane: :insane:

done some research for you JR there was a large batch of mats form ford that were missing the clips. if that delear still has them they need to return them and get some new stock in. all new ones have the clips.

I actually find the clips in the AUII XR8 to be a pain in the ass
When grit get under them, you have to get the pliers out to turn the latch to release them
But as you said, an extra 10kw atrw, I guess its worth it.
I have a solution, i stole the Ford ones out of my company car and leave the XR ones at home under my computer desk, THey dont wear at all now!!!!!!!!!!

Same happened here. The carpet wasn't tuff enough. Thinking I mightn't put the studs in the BA.
Something to do with the missus figiting around in the seat to get comforable, all the while pushing the mats towards the firewall.

Looking at the number of posts by some of the longer standing members onthe site Ford would sell record numbers of mats if they were used under their computer desks.
My BA came with these wierd clips for the XR mats. They look nothing like the stubs from the AU XR mats.
They look more like clips that attach tot he carpet and then have a hook about 5 cm away from the carpet attachment point which goes through the holes in the mats. I'm not impressed with them as sometimes the mats have moved around but they do work better than nothing.
Even my VY SS has the clips for the floormats, both drivers and passengers side..
Hassle the dealer, they should provide the clips altho as damage has been done they should replace the mat without claiming fair wear and tear....

The dealer is spinning you a line. I picked up my XR6T 2 days ago with the optional XR mats. The drivers mat is snuggly held in place with little clips that pin it to the floor.
Get on their case and demand the clips
BTW - I cant work out how to unclip the bugger.
