Silly Question Time

OK well the ricer within has got me and Ive taken off my rocker cover to paint it a pretty ford blue.

Anyway, it was alot harder to get off than the EA, the 4.0 seems to have alot more "stuff" around it..lol

Once I disconnected everything around it, I had to use a big f&$k off screw driver to lever it off as the sealent did its job and it was stuck down tight. So to my suprise the gasket (I think its a gasket :/) thats beneth the edge of the rocker cover is made from some kind of cork (wtf!) and I had chip parts of it off.

So my question is...is there a metal one I can replace it with? And also what sealent do I use to "glue" the rocker cover back on? I know it seems like a dip-shit question but I just want to make sure I but the best stuff on.

Also since its a cheap "mod", that others might have the same issue.

Thanks in advance guys...

Re: Silly Question Time

should be a rubber gasket and shouldnt need sealant, the bolts on the top should assert enough preasure to just seal it up fine,

worked on my EA

Re: Silly Question Time

i think the ED gasket is rubber..its much better

sealant is never a bad thing either, i use some blue stuff but cant remember the name of it. Its like rubber gasket sealant, you can buy it from your Repco's, super cheap's etc.

Oh and My old XG was a 1994 model so it had an ED 4.0 engine.....

Re: Silly Question Time

Even $42 isn't that bad - Ash and I paid $36 each from a small auto shop a year or 2 ago. The only hard part about installation is scraping all the old crap off!

Re: Silly Question Time

what about the glue fellas? Should I just go around to the local garage and ask for some or do I have to buy a huge tube of it?

Re: Silly Question Time

I think I know the stuff you're talking about - if no one else knows I can find out because my friend used it on his Explorer.

When I did mine I didn't bother with any kind of sealant - just make sure the bolts are adequately tight.

Re: Silly Question Time

Oh, forgot to mention that Repco sells them for around $20 if I'm not mistaken.
