The Prophecy is to become real!
As per the dream here...
I often cry myself asleep at night because of its non-existance, the crime commited by its non-being. The perfect car, the new 540 for the masses. The perfect union of two very diffrent products, forfilling the real dream of velvet glove (Ghia) and a iron fist within (Turbo mechanicals), creating something greater than the some of its parts. That hand of god turbo torque, the effortless overtaking.. The handling.. A car that is stylish and composed, but speaks its mind.
It has to be done right, I don't think it should exist on just fairmont level.. Needs to be the Ghia.. Needs 18" Ghia wheels, exactly the same as normal 17" but 18"s. As we a getting very close to the end of BA Series I, it has to happen now as a special edition before its made a regular product in BA II..
These limited BA versions should have a few special tweaks so they become absolute collector items (as the origional execution of this concept). Things like having the Brembo's from the GT/GT-P as a cost option, these would massively baulster re-sale values (a bmw and merc trick), toughen the image even more so, calms any fears of conservative buyers.. Extra sound deadening, in the wheel arches/boot, so performance tyres don't make as much performance tyre sounds.
Make 20% manual... Again, these will be highly sought after in the second hand market, retaining even more value. While the manuals may(or may not) take slightly longer to sell, they will be halo cars for dealerships, having them sit on the floor will bring people in.
The only possible flaw it has, is the 4 speed.. Make a 6 speed manual/Auto option, even if its outragous priced.. You will convert everyone..
Put on the origional "quiet" turbo exaust that was altered for the XR6-T because it wasn't noisy enough. Suit the Ghia nicely.. More efficent too.
While it wouldn't be the new GTHO, it would create a little bit of that same type of awe.. That, they have made something so right, so perfect it shines. Magazines would wet their pants, there is nothing Holden or HSV could create to remove a Turbo Ghia from the cover of a automagazine. They will write poetic scrolls of praise for the car that has performance, but hides it under its composure and class.
And if Ford thinks they can't sell the dam things.. There is no hope, for they are eternally lost.. Anyone I mention this concept to, dreams the same dream.. The perfect car. The car the wife would approve of, the boss would let you have, the one you could park in a carpark or drive with out it being stolen at gun point. The car that the cops can't see.. The car with magnificant resale, its two cars in one, but its so much more.
A zen master, a truely balanced vechical for pleasure and apprication. Something you can explain to someone on the other side of the world and they will nod and understand the perfectness of the concept. The ideology, the engineering, the crowning glory of it. Anyone who drives it, will become addicted..
It makes me sad and angry. More so than the lack of a GTHO, focus RS or any other model. Because, it can be done, tomorrow, with very little effort. The only reasons I could possibly see it isn't here, is that Ford thinks they won't make money on it. Which is crap.. Silly and stupid.
I find it silly the dealerships haven't lobbied Ford for this already.
Ford three words.
** MAKE IT HAPPEN **
