I've got an EF Fairmont which i want to get lowered and put some decent wheels on. However, my insurance company won't allow this because i'm under 25, and I'm not going to pay $1500 through Just Cars.
I have noticed that, "Sports Suspension" was an option on the EF Fairmont (Same suspension out of XR6/8), as well as the 16" wheels off an XR6/8.
If I get hold of suspension off an XR6/8 (springs only or shocks too??), as well as the 16" wheels off the XR6/8 and get it all fitted, I could just say that I bought the car like that and it must have been fitted from factory?
I'm apparently allowed one "Cosmetic" change, this being the tinted windows which i've already done.
Does anyone have any experience with any of this kind of stuff and know if it would work?
I am not sure if the compliance plate lists what was on the car from factory, can anyone say ?
Otherwise yes you could, ONLY question I have, does the insurance company know that YOU asked, as in you gave your name, policy number etc, or did you just make an anonymous enquiry, if you told them who you are and what you want to do, they may have marked your file and that may put you in it come claim time.

I did put something here, but it vanshied, I think
i am an insurance agent for SWANN Insurance, if you state that the suspension is genuine Ford (I.E. XR6/XR8) and paint the springs black (to look like the orig. ones) then it's insured. just make a note of the option on the policy as "factory handling option" etc, this will cover it, it will be voided only if the car is obviously excessively low or illegal.
my own 600hp XR8 is insured through Swann, they even cover the supercharger (i'm 32).

Then go without. You have a duty of disclosure, pleading ignorance won't be of much use to you if you haven't the cash to fight them in court if/when they cancel your policy when it comes time to make a claim.
The policy is actually under my mums name and i'm an additional driver.
I pretty much just want to know that if I put something on the car that it didn't come with BUT it was an option from the factory, then I'll be alright.
I would simply just tell them that "I bought the car second hand and it came with those wheels and suspension - probably from the factory as an option".

And they would simply tell you your policy is cancelled.
