I've just walked out to my car to check things like oil, etc before I go off for a week's holiday and I've noticed that the back driver side looked a bit low. So I got out a tape measure and got a few measurements. I've noticed the back not handling as well as it used to...
[Stock ride height]
--- Under chassis ---
Driver front 200mm
Passenger front 200mm
Driver rear 200mm!!
Passenger rear 240mm!!
--- Top of guard ---
Driver rear 700mm!!
Passenger rear 740mm!!
Now there's 3/4 tank of juice in it but this shouldn't make a huge difference to the ride height would it??
What is the rear measurement supposed to be?? Do I have a collapsed shock/spring or has the shock/spring jumped out of place?? This has me a bit worried as I have to drive 300k's tomorrow and being Christmas Eve I don't expect that I will be able to get it fixed in time..
This may sound like a stupid question, but is the car on level ground????
My car always looks like its on a slight angle, but I know(hope) its my driveway.
You should also check your tyre pressure, maybe one side is down a little. You can confirm this by measuring to the centre of the wheel from the ground.
The ground was a little unlevel but I was still right..
I took it to Bridgestone and they measured it up and the driver spring is getting close to needing replacement because it is too far out with the other one. Makes a bit of body roll around left hand corners...
Anyway I talked to the guy about lowering the back to the same height as the front and then putting on a thicker front swaybar because as I might as well do it better if I'm just gonna replace the springs... This should make it handle a bit better without losing ride height (which I need as some of the roads here has REALLY bad edges - a few people with 17" wheels have lost tyres cos they have been ripped off as they come back onto the road after moving off to let someone overtake!!)
10 or 11 years with approximately 70 kilos + of human meat constantly sitting in the drivers side will make the drivers side springs sag earlier than the left hand side. Mine sits a little unevenly atm but I am not worried as I will be getting lowered springs all round eventually. Dont worry about driving with it like this....I constantly drived to Brisbane and back etc so yeah
Now that I think about it, after watching vids of my car going down the drag strip I noticed mine sits down a bit on the drivers side but strangly it sits level in the garage. I wouldnt think me being around 75kg would make that much of a difference
From bottom of rim (15") to guard, Front 610mm Rear 600mm give or take 5mm drivers side meant to be higher when suspenion new, but should be the same after a while
my rear drivers side spring saged, it sat 40mm lower than the rear passanger side.
