Question Synthetic oils

Im going to replace my engine oil with synthetic oil but was told not to
put synthetic oil in until I have done at least 5000/6000km's, i have only
done 1300km. they said while your engine is running in it is better to use
mineral oil as it lets the rings etc bed in.
Can anyone confirm this, sounds right to me.
By the way my car is BA XR8.

Regards
Wade

That is correct, I changed mine at 8000 to make sure she was ran in right.
And may i suggest you use a thin synthetic oil also. I have just done my first oil change and I used FUCHS TITAN GT1 0w/20 with a purlator oil filter.
and I can tell you that the differance in performance in oil is nothing short of amazing. It really has made the car more responsive and picked up alot more bottom end power. check this web site www.fuchs.com.au/html/passenger_car_engine_oil.html It is expensive at $88.00 for 4ltrs. But it is the best on the market and if you are like me you won't put a inferiour product into you pride and joy.
Give it a go you will be impressed

Matt.

Re: Synthetic oils

Absolutely correct, DO NOT use synthetic until the engine is fully run in.

I also believe that the factory fill is a special blend to enhance the running in process - can anyone confirm or otherwise?

If you do change to synthetic, make sure that the viscosity range at least covers the recommended 15W-40 range, e.g. 5W-40 would be OK, but 0W-30 might be a bit thin. I wouldn't like to make an engine warranty claim if I was running an oil that didn't meet the Ford specs!

Re: Synthetic oils

After 5000km, I switched to Shell Helix Plus 15w50 (semi-synth) and a PureONE oil filter (its metalic blue colour also suits the colour of my car extremely well, being a shockwave.. :).

The original oil was extremely grubby at 5000km (left a bit of greasy stuff at the bottom of the oil pan) and the Helix seems to keep the engine a tad cooler as well. The filter and oil combo also hold oil pressure extremely well - the oil light goes of almost instantaneously when starting.

I'll switch to full synthetic at 15,000km - or may even stay with the Helix Plus as its a great oil at a good price.

Re: Synthetic oils

u cn buy a running in oil made by penrite and its great for a car under 10000 km is fully recomended to use this oil. it costs about 45 dollars but its some new stuff just resently on the market and it fully protects new motors or rebuilt motors. coz how your motor is treated before run in is how it will run for the rest of its life
