I presently own a '91 EB XR8, pearl black and I'm tossing around with the idea of trading up and my finances allow for me to buy something in the $15k range and I like the XR's which would mean XR6 or 8. I know the EF V8 engine produces much the same power as my EB so it would have to be other characteristics and features that would sway me to trade up to the EF, whats your thoughts.
Thanx in advance.
Mark.

Stick with the EB! Mechanically the same, and you know all it's bugs/quibbles/characteristics. And you know the car like the back of your hand. *And it's Black*
The EF/EL series is a more refined car then the EA/EB/ED series. Chassis rigidity is better, they are quieter and smoother.
Mechanically they are much the same.
I know it's been thrashed to death here and I'm not interested in arguing about it, however I feel the XR6 is the better car in the EF/EL series.
To make up your own mind, drive both.
At the end of the day, both are better than the EB.
For me it depends on whether the EB has the quad lamps (I dont think it would?) - I'd rather own an ED XR6 than the EL Fairmont I have purely because I like the look of the ED XR far better.
Its all pretty personal I reckon. Whether you prefer the shape of EB vs EF, the newer interior styling etc.
The 6 VS 8 question is again pretty personal.
Mostly I would say its more money vs younger car, known vs unknown quantity, and how much you would prefer the newer styling . . .
Oh. plus you might pick up abs and airbags etc on an EF... But again, some people dislike abs...
I'd go EL over EF XR8 EVERY DAY but of course you're looking more at the $20k mark for an EL. It's worth the stretch if you can for those extra killerwatts (185 from memory above the 168kW EF XR8)
