I have been looking for ideas to replace the gear changer surround in my EA Ghia 3 Speed. I would like to get a secondhand one from the reckers, but they are hard to come across. Has anyone done anything different with theirs? Ie: paint? If so whta would be the best way to spray paint the plastic bits around the gear knob, radio etc?

Ps: if anyone has or knows where i can get that part i am happy to buy it.. i live in the country, but getting to adeliade is not a problem

I looked into getting one from Ford for my old EA. They are still available genuine for the low low price of around $140!! I just searched the wreckers and found a half decent one eventually.

You seriously cant find a 3 speed surround?

The wreckers in melb 90% of the cars are 3 speed CFI and most of those are pretty good. If you had a 4 speed I could sell you my spare surround.

If you replace the surround, reckon it would stop it vibrating? At ~3000rpm+, the thing vibrates with the most annoying noise you can imagine. You can stop the noise by giving it a good thump, but it comes loose or whatever again once you put the foot down hard again. I've tried using selastic under the surround, but that hasn't really helped much.. perhaps doing a manual conversion will fix it

Juarez, yes I had that problem, and yes the new transmission fixed it.
