URGENT!!! Need to get my car started before tomorrow's cruise!!!
OK here's the situation,
I've been hard at work converting my CFI to EF/EL mpfi for tomorrow's GOR cruise... Finished everything but my car wont start.
It's turning over but not igniting!
This wouldn't be too bad if I had another few days to figure out the problem and fix it, BUT I NEED THE CAR STARTED BEFORE TOMORROW's GOR CRUISE!!!
So I need help ASAP.
It's running an EB 4.0litre Dizzy, EL fuel pump, EF manifold and injectors, EA multipoint comp and multipoint injector/engine loom.
What could be the problem, how can I test it and more importantly how can I fix it before tomorrow, knowing that nothing is open for me now.
Re: URGENT!!! Need to get my car started before tomorrow's cruise!!!
having never done a multi-point conversion i wouldnt really know, but heres a list of things i do when a car wont start.
car needs spark, fuel, air and compression.
take a sparkplug out and earth it to the rocker cover and see if its sparking.
put your ear to the fuelpump in the boot and make sure its priming the lines (you'll hear a humming noise for a few seconds when the car is turned to accessory position). if your conversion doesnt incorparate priming, unplug a the fuel line attached to the fuel rail and put it in a glass jar or similar (be careful, i dont want a burns victim on my concience lol), turn it over and see if you get anything. if you do, look to the injectors for a problem.
take off your air filter and see if there is a slight vacuum when cranking.
compression is the last thing, not very likely seeing as you havnt taken the head off or anything.

I would check and make sure that the fuel pump relay is clicking when u turn the key on and then clicking back off after a few seconds, if its not, change it

Okie dokie, we've tried hooking the fuel pump straight to the battery and it works fine, so then we assumed it was the relay.
NZ, the pumps definately not pumping at the pump when connected to the car.
Walkinshaw, the fuel lines are the right way round :)
I also tried testing the spark and found there to be none. Soooo I'm guessing it's a main power problem. I Will be doing some further tests today to see if the ignition coil itself is making spark, changing relay etc.
