Re: vernier gear
its a new cam gear that allows you to alter the cam timing,
No DONOT break the chain. Loosen the tensioner and replace the gear with the verner item.

Re: vernier gear
When you do it, be very careful with the tesioner assembly and plastic guides as they tend to break really easily.

Re: vernier gear
Yeah you can use it on any cam, but I think there will be very little benefit running it with a stock cam.

Re: vernier gear
For us n00bs, why would you alter the timing of the cam?

Re: vernier gear
changes when the valves open
allows finer adjustments and ability to acheive max power for the cam.

Re: vernier gear
Advancing or retarding the cams position moves the power band. If you advance the cam by 4 degrees you roughly move the power down 200rpm, so you will have more low down power but less peak power. Retading the cam has the opposite affect, so this allows you to finely tune your cam to get the best results for your engine, gearing etc.
