anybody ever done a dirt rally in an X- falcon?? Did a road closure for part of the ACT series, there was only one commodore, and not even an esky :O
2 lancers ended up winning, then a gt4 celica... the very few commodores are usually quite competitive, but i guess the falcoons are just too big and heavy, yeah??
i have seen a XA-XB-XC (forget which now ) in the lineup after the QLD round of the Australian chamionships at caloundra a couple of years ago.
i think they came from up north somewhere.
i would love to have the time and money to have a go .

i think it was a sedan from memory - black ??
few years ago now, hadn`t really thought about it since
just remember thinking that it stood out as a big old car amongst all the new WRXs , Lancers , etc.

I read an article years ago about a bloke rallying a Phase 3, rear tyres lasted 20km. There are "some" Falcons rallying, eg a pair of EF XR8s at the Rally of Melb I went to a couple of years ago, however as you said they aren't really suited. Larger size makes the roads through the bush tighter (eg can't get as sideways before you hit things), and on dirt having extra power does not make the same difference it does on bitumen.
A phase 4 was rallied for a while by, I think, Bruce Hodgson. An XD or XE type ute won the Baja 1000 (Aussie entry) a few years ago. It's on the net somewhere but can't recall. It was in a museum.
Also was a story in Aust Muscle Car magazine a while back.
XR's and XT's were great rally cars - a bit lighter than later ones.
According to drivers, responsive, good handling and you could put in a small Windsor and they go like the clappers as well.
hmmm.... perhaps an old falcon or corty might be a good idea - just realised i'd only be up against the commodores in the engine capacity thing (i think), but i couldn't bring myself to rally anything older than an XD (i'd want it for the street).
but the newer falcons are fatter anyway aren't they? Wait what am i saying - it'd sound fu...bloody tough, it'd look fu...bloody tough, and who cares if it didn't do good - it'd be my first year, and goddamn would it put on a show for the peeps taking photos round corners

got some thinking to do...
Forget the falcon or corty, get a Capri and drop a 289 windsor in her.
Slightly better handling than the falcon and very nice power to weight possibilities.
Theres a few of em here in NZ and they absolutely haul arse, and you cant beat the sound of them - makes a change to all that "spoosh spoosh" turbo crap + you cant beat that RWD fun!!
