Hello All,

Had a bit of a unfortunate incident yesterday.

Was parallel parking the XR outside my house yesterday morning, there is a stormwater drain outside in the gutter, it has a metal bar across the front to stop the concrete from colapsing into the drain, the rod sticks out about 1cm from the concrete. As i was parking the car the tyre rubbed up against the corner of the rod, as a result i now have 1 flat tyre and an unrepariable gash in the sidewall. D'oh...... What are the ods that i would hit the bar on the perfect angle????

Anyway here comes the good bit, called my local bob jane, and was quoted a trade price on a new Dunlop Sp Sport 18" tyre.........You ready for it.......I wasn't...............$610......F*%K.......

Should have bought the 5th alloy when purchasing the car. Having said that, the last flat tyre i had was over 6 years ago........didn't think i would need it.....

Opps... in addition, does anyone know where i can get an 18" Dunlop tyre for less than $610 in sydney???

Me thinks Bob Jane is dreaming.

(Think I'll keep my 16" for sure now... I thought $200 a tyre was bad!)

At least you didn't take out 2 tyres like I did on my GT. The Dunlops are less than $610 at trade price, you can get them from Ford Parts Retail for that price so Bob Jane are dreaming. I was told that Big O's tyres in Liverpool can get them cheaper than that, and certainly Beaurepairs were even cheaper than Bob Jane when I checked there too. I actually ended up scapping the Dunlops and getting 2 Goodyear Eagle F1 G3-D3 as they are only about $470 per tyre and perform just as well, but for 1 tyre I would 'Stick with Dunlop' (LOL)

For a strock standard, non-turbo XR6, it's not like you need really high performance tyres. For that kind of money, you can get 2 of just about any other brand 18" tyre!! Well, apparently, these ones you can get 3 for that kind of money:

I had to get one replaced last week, and was told they were around $450, so that quote seems quite steep. Thankfully mine is a lease vehicle, and i wasn't out of pocket at all. :D

Being an XR I guess it's an SP3000. I can get the SP9000 for less than $500 easily so the SP3000 should be a lot less than that. Try Sean at Wheels Pty Ltd in Kirrawee - I buy all my stuff from him and he's a Ford nut. Tell him Pete sent you (and tell him I'll be back soon for my 10000km rear tyre relacement!)

The 18" option rim on the XR range are factory fitted with Dunlop SP 9000 tyres.

Yep it's an SP9000

Called a few places prices range from $539 up to $580 through to my original quote of $610.

No one has it in stock?

My local Beurepairs agent offers a tyre warranty for $6 per tyre.
This includes punctures repaired for free for the life of the tyre.
Any puncture that cannot be repaired you will be given a new tyre up to 10000km then pro-rata after that.
It doesen't matter if the damage was your fault they will still replace it.
I think its a worthwhile investment for low profile tyres especially.
