well, my car is offically GHEY (actually, now its not any more!!!)

ive had it with my bloody car, ever since i bought it it has had issues (ie it will NOT rev past 4600rpm NO MATTER WHAT, and then missfires for 20 secs after i change into the next gear) i was sent to this site by someone on caraudioaustralia.com, in the hopes someone here could help me, but to no avail.

my first thread was on this exact topic, i would post a link but i cant be bothered searching for it.

today i reached the end of my teather.

i have replaced the air filter, fuel filter, leads, spark plugs, rotor, cap, valvesprings, put in a vernier gear, checked timing a billion times extractors and exhaust with new cat, put in two different computers borrowed from friends, even tried a chiptorque chip down at BWCP on a E-series cruise that was borrowed from lukey039s brother, pulled the injectors out and sonicly cleaned them and fitted new strainers, checked fuel pressure at least 14 thousand times, swapped the XR reg for a stock one...the list goes on.

so today i replaced the last possible thing that could possibly have anything wrong with it: the coil.

and it made SFA difference. the sh!tter still wont rev out and its KILLING my quarter mile times, not to mention the traffic light grand prix's that i never engage in....AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! IM GUNNA BURN THE F*KKER!!!!!!!! my mate has a bog stock auto EB MPFi 6 that revs hardcore right to the 5500rpm cutout - WHY DOESNT MINE??!?!?!??!?!!??

this new engine/computer combo cant come fast enough!!!

damn cars :)
whens the new engine etc goin in? :p

yeah fuel pump is fine, have swapped 02 sensor as well.

forgot to mention that i have also swapped the MAP sensor, and bought new air temp and water temp sensors too, all to no avail.

quickcorty - it doesnt 'bounce' like when you hit the limiter (it will hit the limiter in neutral, but under load no go at all) it just goes up there and stays at 4600, making little missfire sounds occasionally.

its healthy until that point (it makes 126rwkw@4500) but it wont rev past it...GRRR!!!

I'm really sorry to hear about your frustration rollin. As you know, I'm very familiar with the urge to burn a blasted car that just keeps annoying you! Interesting that it revs fine in neutral... it's not something bizarre like the transmission or your new diff or something strange is it :eyebrow: in which case you're going to be even more annoyed when the new engine / computer combo is installed :fraz: Can you cruise along and then select a lower gear and carefully try to bring the revs up past 4600 to see how she behaves?

this is an EXTREEM longshot....but have you checked your accelerator cable hasnt stretched and your throttle is not opening fully?

just a thought...

All that money you would of been better to buy an ef engine. New engine gearbox and diff and you should be out of problems. Maybe your computer ?? Long shot but i had a computer in mine it was fine but when i reved up high was shaky as a bitch. Anyway i replaced it all problems fixed. I got a problem i cant seem to get damn traction anymore with this manual :/

rollin, I don't want to scare you, but what about wiring looms? Is there anything that looks crappy?

EDIT: Not having a go at you, I'm sure you've checked all this out a thousand times, but maybe I'll stumble upon something you haven't checked if I keep rambling enough :dj:

yeah I had the same problem in my ea before the engine change... I just put it down to 400,000 kms! oh yeah, and the cat was blocked... I assume you've checked that the balancer pulley hasn't slipped...?

We should put into action this FIX ROLLINS CAR DAY since he has helped so many of us out there around brisvegas, I have next weekend off, BRING IT ON....

Rollin. The last time I took my car down th track at Calder I had a revving issue as well. Was fine till 4500, then after that, just died in the ass, like I was out of fuel. I had to cross the line in 5th with a 14.9. Funny enough, it ended up being that the engine was slightly low on oil.

I had just under 5L in the thing at the time (probably about 4.75), now I put about 5.5L in and have not had a problem since, and 5500 is no problem, even with the swirl in the chamber.

Just thought i'd share that.

thanks for your support people, i will reply to your suggestions: (which i do appriciate!)

i didnt post above (the list of things i have replaced exceeded my memorys ability to remember them) but i replaced the entire distributor about 3 weeks ago.

when i did the leads/rotor/cap etc absolutely no change was noted - if they were fautly its highly unlikely they are faulty in exactly the same way, and i know what buggered leads feels like - i have replaced about 400,000 of them in commonwhores in the last 4 years.

slammed falcon it sounds like we have exactly the same problem! have you replaced your fuel filter recently? my first EB did this sort of thing, but only at about 3500rpm, i replaced the fuel filter and it was all fine. no such luck with this EB though :(

ignition the problem has been there since i bought the car - when i test drove it i thought it was just a blocked exhaust (the stock system was ROOTED and robbing power - i picked up 31hp from a new exhaust, from 133hp to 164hp at the wheels) so i didnt worry too much about it, but its killing me now. the new diff didnt change anything at all.

i will try bringing the revs up slowly to see if it still does it, but that kind of defeats the purpose of giving the car a rev!

ss-gt i the box is manual, so no worries about it causing dramas, and i have already replaced the diff (from 3.45LSD to 3.89LSD) to no avail.

i am currently organising a new engine - AU bottom end, serpentine belt setup, intake manifold etc etc etc, but with my EB XR6 head and a bloody big cam, as well as a completely new computer system which is MAF based (its a 5.0 computer) not MAP like the sixes usually run. so after $1500 bucks worth of engine and $2000bucks worth of computer it better bloody rev! outlook is about febuary, but i cant do anything until i get my computer, and i have been waiting since october for it GRRRRR...

XR6 cortina its got a new balancer on there as well, i replaced that a while ago to try and stop a habit the engine developed of throwing power steer belts all the time (i did that on a few peoples advice, turned out the belt was just worn and needed replacing...*sigh*) timing was perfect before and after the balancer replacement.

i put it on a dyno, but the shop seemed scared to rev it up that high, they couldnt understand that i would rather they blow the motor to heaven than drive round with it like it is, they eventually told me it was running too rich, but a friend was following me the other day and i gave it a bootful, nothing came out the exhaust, if it was rich it would be black smoke, so there goes that theory.

Bass Crazy - that is a very long shot, i service it every 5000km, and the level is perfect straight after the service (of course) and there is no change before or after, but i will overfill it a little tomorrow and see if it makes a difference. how stupid would i feel if it was just due to low oil? (though why it would go better with more than the proper amount of oil eludes me, but thanks for the suggestion!) maybe i should try a different grade as well? i use GTXIII, might try a heavier grade oil next time...

im getting a cam ground for it next week, just a baby one to use with the stock computer until i get the proper one, which might make it go a bit better, though probably only to 4600rpm :AAHHH:

so it looks like the only thing i havent done is overfill the oil...saturday morning it shall be done! and i might be seeing a mate that has a EB XR6 on saturday nite, so i will try and swap some parts then if its not fixed.

Oh boy! Im glad im not the only person with this same problem!! Mate, i know exactly how you feel. Ive had the same thing for 2 years now, ever since i got the CFI changed over to MPI. Now with all the mods ive done, it just seems a whole lot worse! Its like your hauling ass right up to 4500rpm then its like all of a sudden you towing a house! I find it is alot worse in 1st. When it does it, i change to 2nd and it seems to pickup a little better! Ive also changed almost EVERYTHING! Sent it to ford, MPI specialists and they all say the same thing "Seems to be running OK" - Yeah for a granny. If you guys want to spend a saturday looking at the cars, im willing to supply alcohol :) It is very frustrating... :(
