hey guys,
got the latest motor mag... Aussie Rules the headlines... Anyway for those who dont know the cover is 9 of the best Aussie muscle cars... didnt know 6's come under Muscle cars (but thats not for debate here)...

Read it through, the results have already been posted... Anyway, read the final summary of performance, ratio's, etc... and here's a result that has me perplexed...

BA XR8 Weight Claimed - 1795kgs... Actual Weight - 1707kgs!!

WHAT THE?! Why would a manufacturer claim a car to be heavier than it actually is and why by 88KGS!!!!

Most of Holdens are under-estimated (must be the tare/kerb weight issue) but whats with the Fords!!

Also the GT got more RWKW than the 300KW GTS...

Dont aim things at me... just typing what I'm reading... Anyone?!

Maybe it's a typo nd means 1807kegs

thought about that... but the GT is supposed to be heavier than the XR8 (and at 1807 it would be more than the GT's 1805) and the FORDS are all rated more than they "actually" are...

What I thought astounding is the following:

XR8: 877kg(front axle); 830kg(rear axle); 1707kg total
XR6T: 905kg (f); 754kg (r); 1659kg total

ie. XR8 is actually lighter at the front than XR6T!?

It does not appear to be a simple typo, as f+r adds up to the correct number. I have to admit, though, that something like 977(f) and 730kg(r) split for XR8 seems more likely...

If those stats were true, wouldn't it mean that the XR8 is a better balanced car for "spirited" driving???

yeah something is wrong somewhere. i thought the weight was a big issue and the reasont he holdens were quicker to 100 than the Fords. But I guess have a higher diff ratio helps them too.

yeah most be a rush job by motor, without proper controlled conditions.

i cant see the massive DOHC V8 weighing less than the I6.

Hi there,

I'm new to Ford Forums. I have a BA XR8 ute, now it surprised me that the ute is heavier that the sedan. Now I hear that Motor quote the sedan as 88 kg's lighter - i assume the ute is also 88 lighter. Me must go to a weighbridge sometime... I'm hearing a lot of different numbers. FYI, I've found out the following different weights for the BA XR8 Ute:
Ford Owners Manual - 1800kg
Redbook - 1670kg
Motor Magazine - approx 1712kg (based on a weight reduction of 88kg's on the Sedan?)

utes are normally heavier than sedans... so that weight reduction may not be the same for the utes... also, i think it is a typo... will take my car to a weighing station after my exams and put all this to rest!!
