What's the diff between a GS and a Rally Pack - Ford Forums

I recently bought an XC ute. I thought it was a GS but it has a tag on the radiator support panel which says " R/PACK". Is it the same as a GS? It has GS driving lights, GS bonnet, GS dash and GS fuel filler cap.
Still a good buy for $750 with rego i reckon:)

I think the GS and Rally Pack are the same thing. My ute was the same, and had R/Pack on the tag on the radiator support pannel, and also had all the GS items you listed above.

What colour is the ute? 6,8? Auto, man?

she's originally white, but when i bought her it had primer patches all over it. looked a mess. now she's completely primer and gonna get resprayed tropicana green and argent silver. interior was a tan colour but now is black. she's a 6cyl and auto with 250,000km's on her. but she doesn't leak or use a drop of oil.

this is the day i bought her.

and this is the colour she'll be.

I like the color zc347. Is it an original Ford color?

GS rally pack includes "distinctive paint treatment, slotted steel road wheels, bonnet scoops, comprehensive instrumentation including tacho, oil pressure, temp & fuel gauges, bumper overriders, electric clock (where not std), "soft feel" sports steering wheel, map reading light, styled left hand exterior rear-view mirror, long range driving lights (n/a on Fairmont)".
This is from Ford all model catalogue Feb 1979 which covers the XC range. Any time GS is mentioned in the catalogue it is stated as GS Rally Pack.

Thanks for clarifying the GS/Rally Pack thing GXL Guy. Does the GS rally pack include black door handels and trimings around the front and rear windows??

thanks for the info guys. the green i'm painting it is off the xb model. and it's gonna have silver "blackouts". For the moment she's gonna stay a 6cyl coz it's my work car and i already got a v8. But eventually i'd like to put an efi v8 in.

I was told the small tag you mention on the front crossmember ("R/PACK") was used to tell the assembly line what WIRING HARNESS to install, nothing else. Being from the States I don't know if all XC FalconsFairmonts/LTD's had the tach or only those in GS trim.

Was also told that the XC Series II vehicles used the "500" name to denote the trim level and "GS" was discontinued.

By the way, you do know there were XC's and XC Series II's, right?

XC series 2 had the blue oval on the grille; XC series 1 had F O R D across the front of the bonnet...
