Hi Guys,
I am new here and would love some expert help on car values. Looked at a 1979 XD Fairmont Ghia on the weekend and wouldn't have a clue as to what it's worth. Its got a 351, factory fitted leather int, factory lowered, 260,000 kms, FMX auto, 16 x 8 B45's, resprayed approx 6 years ago, does not come with any books, 2nd owner, in very good condition, never smashed and no bog. What would you think a car like this is worth? Any help would be really appreciated....... Thanks

The car will be a "vintage" in about 5 years - so there is some "value" in that. But make sure the engine is sound (look for slow oil leak!!). My estimate of street value 3-6K

You would have to find out what type it is....e.g. ESP, or a sports pack
351 XD's in good nick are worth around the $2-7K, $7000 would be the most I would pay for a very very very clean example of a car like this.
What price does he have on it? if you don't mind me asking......
alot of km's though, does it have a rebuilt engine.
Do the engine numbers match the body numbers?

thanks newxr & TICK4D - it's not an ESP or sports. Has not quoted a price at this stage - was looking at selling for $12000 a couple of years ago. friend of a friend sort of deal. Think he will want too much for it...... Engine is original

Yeah, Coz it is not a GT, or ESP, it would be hard to justify much more.
But if it is immaculate.......well

Over 250K on the clock - original engiine non ESP/Sports. Even if its concourse condition I think 12K is a hard ask - IMHO

thanks newxr i don't know much, but that definately sounds high to me too. Last time we were looking for a nice XD (over 10 years ago) they were the going rates way back then!

Redbook average price sale is 1-2.3k

I'd offer him 3k for it and maybe pay up to 5k depending on the condition and options. Even when it does become vintage, i doubt it will gain much value at all so don't let that card suck you into buying it.

At the end of the day, these cars are dime a dozen, and there's not much special about them.
