Yellow cabs (this is Brisbane) have a sweet heart deal with Toyota on a crap pack Camry... They tried to scratch each others backs.. It hasnt worked, the owners that bought the Camrys are finding they cannot even come close to the Ford for the prolonged work loads taxis do. So most owners are still getting ex-fleet AU3 and BA's...
I havent seen a BA, but when dad was in melbourne 2 years ago, and he rode in an AU taxi, rego sticker said that it was about a year old at the time and he said that it had 500000 on the clock!!!
couldnt beleive it when he told me, said the driver told him that it had never been cold and was driven by 3 different drivers
theres a toyota avalon2 taxi in our town...looks pretty stupid too. the highest NON taxi car that i had ever seen was a red AU XR8 that was just 2 years old and had over 780000km on it. it was for sale for like 9k or something and it said it was an ex 'company' car....gee some company!!

Apparently since the AU, they have used some cheap-ass bearings instead of the Timken ones. My AUII diff bearings went at 70,000km - about two months after the 3yr warranty expired.
Wrote a letter to Broadmeadows, expecting replacement, but they didn't want to know about it. Hence I traded it in, and won't consider another Falcon for some time yet.
honestly dont know and really dont want to. i had a 30 year old car with half the Ks on it. it was advertised for sale with those Ks written and that price written. i never enquired as i thought with all those Ks it'd cost a fortune to get it back to 'new' again.
my only thought was some company bought it, chucked it on blocks, ran a direct fuel line to a fuel refinery and chucked it in drive for 2 years. beats me how you could get that many Ks in that period of time but if there was a typo there must have been 2: the Ks and the price which i doubt it would have been buggered up twice.
it isnt impossible though to do Ks like that...you just need to have the right business though...and i dont know what that is.
Yeah my dad runs a taxi company in country victoria and one of the owners bought a avalon... looks shocking but they are alot cheaper to buy... I wouldn't quite trust them to last the km's that falcons have proven over the years...
Highest Km's I had seen was on the gold coast an EL that had done 940,000kms in 5 years.
Non taxi - we've done 45000 in just under one year (August 03 XT). No diff whine (ok, only a little). In reasonable nick - mostly freeway kms. Bit of clunking from sterring at lock, despite being "fixed" at last service. Looks like i'll be asking for the clunk to be "fixed" next week at service too......
