Re: when a gt is not a gt

Trouble is, over the lifetime of a car, you could really replace or repair the whole damn lot apart from the little piece of metal that the plates are rivetted to. What then? Would it still be a genuine GT then? I'd say so.

you'd still need the shock tower as well, to complete the set.

Interesting point. The point at which it stops being a GT is very subjective to some.

I guess it comes down to which is worth more:

1) A 100% original shell

or

2) A shell with a suspension tower from another car welded in place

All other things being equal option 1 has to be worth more.

Yes, provided it's not rusted to bits.

Re: when a gt is not a gt

i know of a wild violet with white interior xa gt coupe that was rebuilt using a non gt chassis but had the gt turret due to the factory sunroof. this car is beautiful but worth maybe half what it should be because of the jg65 shock tower. the motor is correct jg66. i think the owner may have been a bit naive when he rebuilt it. i feel for him.

So ford still make new shells of old falcons? So I could get a brand new XY shell from Ford still?

How cool is that.

Re: when a gt is not a gt

No not GT shells or old Ford shells, they're new shells. I was just stating that I see Ford shells being transported on trucks to panel shops. For written off cars I guess to prevent people doing cut'n'shuts. I'd gather Ford's been supplying available shells whenever they had them surplus even in the early days.

It might happen, not from Ford though. You can get brand new Mini & MGB shells, and a few others.

When the late great Howard Marsden was asked in 93 at the GT Falcon nationals in Brizvages
Q : " what did you do with all the race cars ( like the PH3's ) that were crashed beyond repair as a wright off " ????????????
A : We took them home & rebuilt them into a NEW body shell with the old numbers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
& went racing again

But that was back in the 70's when they were new cars
