So how long does it take to pay off your car this way?

I own my current car (Pulsar SSS). Had a loan for it and it was paid off about 8 months ago. The XR6T I have on order is another story. I will sorta own it outright when it comes in about 3 weeks or so. (Basically I'll have paid about 2/3 of it upfront and I've got to thank my dad for giving me a no interest loan for the rest). At the rate I'm saving now I'll probably pay him back in about 12 months It sure is good to be a Bricklayer atm Too much work to do.. so little time.

I bought mine outright as well. It was a great feeling buying a brand new car for cash (I was 23 at the time). I was really scared of getting into debt so I saved and saved and saved. If I had borrowed a bit I could've gotten an EL XR6 and in hindsight I wish I had.

Re: who owns their car?

Krash, you can pay it off as quick as you financial can. the home loan repayments are very low, like $100/week for 15 years, but you can increase that weekly repayment to bring the years down. i am in no rush as i consider it as a home loan and that is all i owe on the home.

I'm still about 9K in the hock for my EF Fairmont. Paying in cash isn't necessarily the best idea IMO, especially if you're young. If you paid 40K in cash for an XR6 or something, you could have used the dosh for a deposit on a cheap rental property somewhere and then bought the car on finance. In that case you'd be massively better off in the long run and you'd still have your car. Who cares who 'owns' it, as long as you're the one 'driving' it!

Re: who owns their car?

yep paid for mine outright, but am considering lease options when I get a pay rise in 4 months. I've only had my car for 1 year but I'm going to research whether it is tax effective to invest its equity and lease a new car. Plus I really want a BA XR8 ... gotta get a bulge in that avatar :s6:
