XE Group A Falcon
One of the articles in the new issue of Aust Muscle Car magazine (#13) deals with a Group A Falcon. Yes there was such an animal – two, actually in NZ which were allowed locally, apparently there was a local tweak of the rules to allow this.
The article goes on to describe the development & race history of the cars, including Dick Johnson driving them. But the kicker for me was the final section which asks the question why the Falcons were never homologated for Group A. Estimates 1400kg homologation weight with the 351.
It’s simple really, the V8 had been dropped in 82, and the XE Falcon was no longer the current model in 85, so why on earth would Ford be interested in racing a superceded model? A pretty simple issue that seems to have been overlooked by the writer I think.
