i've got a xf falcon wagon 4.1,the car has a 1bbl stromberg carby,although all xf's i've seen have the 2bbl weber carby fitted,can any one help me identify the origin of the motor as its been changed in the past i think,doesnt have a viscous fan or the fuel return type fuel pump,any ideas what model stromberg is fitted?

The engine sounds like an iron head crossflow from an XD.
are you sure it's not an XD with an XF front on it, it's a popular mod.

spoke to a mechanic earlier t'day,he said it may be an xd motor which is fitted,it has an alloy head fitted to it not the iron one,i'm just learning the oz ford range,been here for three months from england.
sold my mk1 escort fitted with a rover v8 to help my funds to get here!
I believe the later XDs had an alloy head aswell.
The XE and XFs never came with the single barrel.
The top end (head manifold and carby) are all interchangeable
so upgrading it to an unleaded XF head and 2 barrel webber is
very cheap and easy and will be so much better power and economy wise.
I have a couple of spare strombergs in the shed I just had a look at but there are
no model numbers anywhere.

thanks for lookin at your strombergs mate,under different sircumstances i would have the head off straight away like you said,and put a 2bbl weber on,but the funds wont allow it while we are travelling!just trying to keep the motor in top shape for now
