xr6 vct auIII

Hello all,

my first posting so please be kind.....

I would like to know the thoughts on the xr6 vct auIII with Tickford mods. Am very close to buying one, anything I should be wary of, or any good thoughts about them would be appreciated.

Hi mate, and welcome to the Forums.
the AU3 is a very good car, if you want the quicker XR6 of the two, buy a HP, but the VCT with IRS is a good comfortable car.

To be honest i cant think of any faults off the top of my head.

I have an AU1 XR6 VCT and love it. It is true that the HP is quicker in a straight line but the IRS in the VCT is fantastic for the corners. Just be aware that getting any significant power gains out of the VCT engine is more difficult than the HP engine. Basically a Unichip (or similar) is needed to tune in any major mod like exhaust etc.

Apart from that, I love mine and would still choose it over the HP anyday.

A unichip is a piggy back chip that allows the computer to be more presice and therefore create the best possible power. I have yet to fit one myself but will be doing so fairly soon. I hear they are about $1200 fitted and dyno tuned.

Hi Tod,

Ask me, I drive one he he.

Ok Pro's of AUIII XR6 HP
*Lighter
*Quicker
*More fuel efficient
*Better power gains from modifications
*More toward track oriented performance

Pro's of AUIII XR6 VCT
*IRS - More of a refined handling car
*Rear power windows
*More oriented towards luxury and handling away from the track ie business/family car.

The best balance of all those qualities would be to get an AUIII XR6 VCT in manual. I might also suggest you get a '02 plated one that's been fully optioned like a low km ex Ford exec's car. They are really nice.

The only issue you'll really face is finding an excuse to not drive it! There weren't any recalls done on AUIII XR6's that I know of.
