I have noticed an annoying diff whine at approx 95-100ks an hour. Thought it was the tyres but it is the diff for sure. When you back of then power on a little is when it is the worse. Anyone else notice this? (BA XR8 Ute, Auto).

I had my diff gears replaced by the dealer here in Perth for that reason, Found there was harley any oil in it from factory. No arguements from them just booked it in and got it replaced.

Take it in Monday morning. They are saying they have had no trouble with the diffs at all. That would be right!! Hope I am not catching the AP disease.

Went for a run with the Ford Tech this morning and he agreed there is a diff noise there when the ute is "running on". He said they could have another diff here between 7-10 days but I opted to see how it is sounding at the 10,000 k service (any worse and I will have it changed). The noise is not to annoying until you drive on smooth surface bituman.

I can't complain about that type of service.

Apart from lack of fluid, what are some likely causes of this?

That's a hard question to answer. Could be a miss matched crown wheel and pinion, carrier bearings or pinion bearing.

Are these conditions typically a result of a manufacturing fault, wear & tear, abuse, none, all?
