Every now and then, when I am only pottering along, like maneouvering in a car park at 10-20km/h or so, I'll take my foot off the accelerator, with foot down on the clutch, and the thing will stall as it is trying to return to idle. Since new in 2500km it has done this 4 times.
I intend to get it looked at during it's first service, but it's a curious one isn't it. Thank goodness it's a manual because I can usually kick it over again while rolling.
I have had this happen to me 3 times so far (over 6200kms), but not often enough for me to worry too much. Happens at any speed (once happend when I was coasting to a stop from about 80kms), when the revs are allowed to drop to idle in neutral or by de-clutching. But the engine is normally so smooth I don't notice the engine has stopped until the battery charge or oil pressure warning light and associated chime sounds.

In all cases, the car has been warm, the A/C on, the fan on low, and steering straight ahead for the most part - so other than the A/C there are no other excessive loads on the engine.
It makes me wonder whether the idle-bump for the A/C (or anything else that requires an idle bump, like being on full-steering-lock) is working effectively.
Mine stalled again last night as I was in the middle of a 3-2 shift. Again I was lucky it was not in a critical turning situation. I rang the dealership and the w/shop foreman told me Ford had just released a disc with the updates, and a lot of these are to do with idling issues. Hopefully one of them is do do with stopping idling. He said it would be available shortly and it would be "do it while you wait" job.

Wow, they took your speed limiter off?....interesting, I didn't think they would do that.
Mine stalled only once while cruising very slow behind other cars at Summernats time. Suprised me but it has not happened again. If it did I would tell the service guys but haven't mentioned it yet.

Mine's done this about 4 or 5 times. Always going fairly slow. But the 2nd time it happened I was coming up to a "T" intersection and was turning right. Just before I started turning it stalled (I think I had just changed into second) and I had to fight the steering to turn as there was a house straight ahead and a car parked on the side of the road that I was turning onto. I just missed the car and pulled up. Car started straight away and I drove off. Gave me a bit of a fright as I wasn't driving any different to any other time. Just have to be aware of it happening as it's a fairly rare occurance.

OK, I've had two re-flashes of the ECU. In both cases the problem seemed to go away for a month or so and then return.
The 2nd flash worked for the longest - having lasted nearly 3 months - but it stalled twice again in heavy traffic on the F3 coming back to newcastle last monday. Both were cases of having just lightly blipping the throttle and it stalled on returning to idle.
Returning to idle from high-revs is never a problem. It's just those small blips that still get me.
