just wondering if anyone knows anything about converting a XW 3.6 to electronic ignition,cost,hassle,worth doing etc....

My uncle inlaw has an xr fairmont with a 200ci with elec ignition, he did it him self and said it dropped straight in. Hardest thing would be the wiring, and a don't think that would be all that hard.

I have elec ignition on my XW 3.6l (221) all I did was go to the local wrecker's and get an elec dizzy and coil from an XD/E,($30) it bolt's straight in the only thing you need to do is grind a bit off the alloy casting so that the mounting bracket will fit and then get an auto elec to fit it all up, very simple and much better than changing the point's every 5000 klm,it start's much better with a stronger spark,(I noticed this straight away)now some say that the end bush is 20 thou smaller, which it is and this can slop around in the block and eventually snap off but I've had mine for a while and the diameter is noithing to worry about(IMO)if you get hold of a dizzy from an XD/E and compare it to the original one you will see what I mean,some of the original one's are worn down to the same size as the elec one anyway,and most of the guy's I know who race 250's in speed way car's that sit at 6500/7000 rpm constantly have had no drama's and this is one of the 1st thing's they do,I have no regret's in doing this,cheer's.
