11" Single Plate Clutch vs Twin Plate Clutch...

I am building up an XW,and will be using a 351 4V Cleveland with somewhere between 300-350 flywheel horsepower...and a 4-Speed Top-Loader gearbox.I am undecided wether to go for a 11" single plate clutch...or a twin plate clutch? My last 351 and 4-speed car used an 11" single plate clutch that I was fairly happy with. For this next car though...the flywheel I have is'nt drilled for an 11" clutch, and had a twin plate clutch plate fitted. So I don't know wether to go for a twin plate clutch this time,or to go for an 11" single plate clutch. If I go for the single plate clutch...I will either have to get my flywheel redrilled,or get another flywheel that is drilled already for 11" clutch. Also,if I go for a single plate...I would'nt go any smaller than 11" clutch. What do you guy's think??...Thanx,lukeh!!

Re: 11" Single Plate Clutch vs Twin Plate Clutch...

i would go for the 11'' if it was mine.

if you can find the cash i would use a steel flywheel as well instead of the original cast one.

if you are planning on driving the beast a bit hard , the steel flywheel will add a good saftey margin to you car.
have you ever seen a car when the cast flywheel has exploded. it makes a horrible mess and if your lucky , it will just be the car torn apart , not the driver/ passengers.

Some o fhte Yella Terra ones are aluminium. You can pick up cheapish steel billet flywheels. I would definitely go one.

I have an 11" steel billet flywheel and single plate clutch. Works a treat and no farting around with twin plate setups.

I'll add that I have issues with my organic disc holding after it's had a little workout!!

I'm considering fitting a ceramic/metallic disc next time.

yeah. i used to go through the conventional style clutch disc pretty quick,( going in burnout comps, drags ,etc)

fitted a ceramic button on stainless steel plate and it has been trouble free for many years now.
took a bit of getting used to as it is on or off . vertually zero slip.
( now i just twist axles and top loader imput shafts.)
