Might be due for a rebuild and a new converter, how's the fluid look? Being warm is part of the clue, if the pump in the coverter is shot or the fluid contaminated, or the filter is beginning to plug, the warmer fluid's viscosity will thin somewhat making it easier to build pressure. Try changing the fluid and filter first to see if it alleviates the problem.
