1973 9" bearings, which brand?

Hi all,

I am re-biulding a 9" for the XA I am doing. The Wheel bearings are stuffed. Just wanted to know if anyone has had problems with a particular brand or whether you can recommend something? Or doesn't it matter?
I don't mind paying more for a superior product.

Any thoughts?

Cheers. Chris

Re: 1973 9" bearings, which brand?

i like to use TIMKEN or NTN bearings when i can.
never had any problems with these.

i would be wary of the cheap no name import jobs that are getting about.

Thanks for that. I am very wary of brands I can't read, or pronounce. I was looking at the axles last night and do not want to have to do wheel bearings all the time! What a pain in the A that would be. The best way around that is to buy a good quality reputable bearing.
Thanks for your help.

Nice looking XB you have there.

regards Chris

Have you got the axles with the one big bearing per side?

Very good choice. You will get them in NTN brand, but Timken only make tapered roller bearings(suit borgy diff) but they don't make ball bearings which go in the 9 inch diffs. You will get NTN in the narrow drum brake diff brg, but not made in the wider disc brake setup.
