I have a 94 Escort with a 5 speed tranny that is leaking tranny fluid out of the seal where the shifting rod goes in and out of the tranny. A local tranny shop claims that the tranny has to be ripped apart to get to the seal, the strange part is when your underneath the car you can visibly see the seal. I went to Ford and purchased the seal which is $5, from looking at the seal it looks like the seal is press fit in from the outside?? Can someone tell me if it is true that this seal must be changed from inside the tranny?? or can it be done from the outside?
any help would be greatly appreciated!!
