2.3 ford mustang tranny problems.... urgent.
ok.. im kinda between a rock and a hard space.
I have a 92 mustang, 2.3 ltr.
a little while ago about ... a month i guess, i went to get movies from the stroe. well when i went to back up, the damn thing wouldn't go into reverse, it just stalled in a neautal state for a minute then went into reverse. well it did this for a little while, and soon wouldn't go into reverse almost at all, and when it did, it backed up in a very jerky, sputtery motion.
Soon after that when i was on the freeway the car stoped going into overdrive at about 65 mph.... and would just rev really high. now im at I have to drive the car in the 2nd speed. (1 2 D OD) just to go anywhere which limits me at about 40 miles per hour. The tranny shop just looked at it, ( and i mean just looked at the car) and automaticly said "yep your going to need a rebuild.. 1700 bucks." I figured screw that, and get some opinions first.
as when i just drove it 5 minutes ago.. i can stick in into overdrive and step on the gas and around 45 mphs... it kinda slips into an overdrive type mode and stops accelerating, but the engine still revs. and then when i drop below 45, it goes just fine...
Do i need a full, brand new rebuild for 1600 bucks. Or..... is it something a little simpler..... if i do need a whole new tranny, would i be ok with getting one for the neareset junk yard. any help would be great. Than kyou
