I will be getting a 3.23 single spinner from Sunny for those who dont know, it comes from a 30th Anniversary EA Falcon, now I have an EA Ghia Series 1, with a 2.77 LSD diff, can the LSD part of the 2.77 be installed to the 3.23 or is the task impossible and not worth bothering about, I do not want to play with the diff myself but pay someone to do it, if it can be done easily and cheaply, if at all.
It's entirely possible and really quite a painless task, just pull the ring gear/hemisphere assembly out of the 2.77 diff, unbolt the ring gear (left hand threaded bolts) from the hemisphere and bolt it onto the 3.23 ring. Getting the 3.23 ring gear assembly back in is the most difficult part, but if you ask nicely your local Ford dealer might just loan you the expander tool to do it.
hmmmm I see, as I dont know a Ford dealer, or a diff place, I think I have a problem before i Start, what would it cost to have it done you reckon. :0)
The 2.77 has a unique pinion offset so the 2.77 centre can only have 2.77 gears. Reading some posts from rollin and quickcorty they have used other ratio gear sets but they have had to get a spacer made up because of the difference in offset. I guess they also had to get longer left handed thread high tensile bolts as well. I think the best solution would be to try to get a 3.23 lsd before you do the swap or put the singlespinner in and wait untill a better diff comes along (such as an xr6). All depends what you want the end result to be.
ok then so the hemisphere holds the LSD part, and that will not fit from the 2.77 to 3.23 diff, so I will only be able to have single spinner .. is that right ??
There is 2 hemipheres made. One is a 2.77 only, the other is a multiporpose one that will take anything from 2.92 gears onwards. My 351 XD is an ex cop car, and it had 3.23 gears and 28 spline axels and 4 pinion centre. I broke the pinion on the 3.23 gears and when i took them out to replace, they were a special "extra wide" crownwheel, so when i went to put on another 3.23 gear set, they were too narrow(i had the 2.77 lsd centre). I have heard you can chase up these extra wide gears, and run on a 2.77 centre, or make a spacer as someone else said. Try diffing lapping aust or someone for the wide gears. Dion.
