3.0L w/A4LD will another tranny work

Hi! I am looking for information on a transmission that will work with a 3.0L v6. It is matched to an A4LD and I would like to find another tranny that would work. It dosen't have to be an overdrive.
Thanks, Keith

Bolt-hole spacings on all Ford bell-housings are pretty much the same, it's other things you have to worry about. Main differences will be engine-to-input shaft matching, rear g/box mount, gear lever position, and propshaft lengths.
Older C3 type should be ok.

Re: 3.0L w/A4LD will another tranny work

Hi
3.0 in Aerostar is not same as essex engine but is same as Mazda 3.0
our box is A4LD do a search on google and you'll get heaps of info. from my research any trans c3,c4, a4ld, should fit including out of a 4.0 Aerostar. but like Fordtech says it's other bits you need to worry about. Ive got a 92 3.0 and am in the process of trying to find out the differences between all the boxes and what mods can be done to fit a newer transmissions to my older van.
