3.45 Lsd....help Urgent!

My AU is having a 3.45 LSD put in out of an EF ghia. It is at the trans place at the moment pulled to bits. They are now trying to tell me that the pinion heights are different between the two. I was under the impression the centres were all the same from the EBII. Heaps of people have told me it's been done plenty of times before!

Please help! I don't want to have to pay for getting my diff pulled apart and put back together with the same centre!

I can vouch that I have personally changed the 3.27 open center on my AU with a 3.45 LS center from a EF XR8.
There were no differences in pinion height, or anything else.

Its BS.

AU centres and Ef centres are the same. I can vouch for it on all live axle AU and EF but can't be sure about IRS rear end AU being the same although I believe they are.

Should bolt in. Still needs to be shimmed of course.

I have the car back now and I not happy with the job at all! I now have an LSD, but with the original 3.08 gears, because of the suposed difference. The diff has a whine when over 60km/h and when I take my foot of the accelerator I get a squealing noise from the R/H wheel bearing even though they said it's had a full bearing kit!! Talk about pissed!

These guys are mechanics aren't they?

Wheel bearings aren't hard to do properly.

Diff and auto trans specialists are always worth using for diff swaps as the shimming of the crownwheel and pinion clearnces requires experinece or real care that you don't get for $30 hour.

I still don't get it though the centres should swap right over although I have only seen this on AUII 3.23 to EF1/11? 3.45 LSD. I don't believe the AUI 3.08 would be different apart from the no. of teeth obviously.

Well this place is a specialist trans/diff place and they have a good reputation. I just don't get it.

That's what I thought too. But he actually pulled the diff apart and put the centre in, but he reckons he couldn't get it to setup properly. He told me he didn't have the right shims in stock (had 1700's but needed 1600's or something) and they'de be in tuesday.

My opinion is, that if the pinion heights were different, the centre wouldn't have gone in in the first place! I think they realised that the job was worth more than $350 and they didn't want the hoist tied up till tuesday so they offloaded it too me half done.

Does anyone have the actual pinion heights of the EF compared to the AU?
