Unfortunately Ford did not make this ratio available on any modern falcons, would have to be an after market jobby if you want this low ratio.

Re: 3.9:1 from wreckers?

as TICK4D said they dont make them from factory, but you could get Skyline diff gears. you can get 3.7:1 from a Manual R31 and 3.89:1 from R32 skylines.

Makes a huge difference, i have Rollins 3.89:1 diff in my car for 2 weeks.

I think the highest ratio from Ford is 3.45:1. Someone correct me if I am wrong

Thats sounds right, my EL XR6 manual had 3.45, and so does my TS.

Re: 3.9:1 from wreckers?

What model pintara and is it just the gears or does the whole thing fit axles and all. If not do you need the 3.23 or 3.45 housings etc?

Re: 3.9:1 from wreckers?

good question EAtdust, im not too good with diffs myself and dont know much about them, do you just change the middle part? or do you open up the whole thing and change the internals? im thinking of getting a second hand l.s.d now, one that will just fit straight into the eb then getting that rebuilt later on... possibility?

Re: 3.9:1 from wreckers?

I got this info after a quick search on the net!!!

I think all Nissan dealers will be pretty much the same for things like this.

The PN for 3.9 gears is:

38100-J7100

3.7 gears were used in R31 Skylines with manual trans, the PN for those gears is:

38100-J7110

4.1 gears were used in R31 Pintara's (manual or auto) and the PN is:

38100-J7000

To my knowledge, the above are the only make/models that used the BW Model 78 diff with those gear ratios. Holden's and Fords also used the model 78, but they got nothing shorter than 3.45 gears AFAIC.

FYI, the R31 Pintara is basically the same body as the Skyline, but with a 4-cyl engine (CA20), thus the reason for the 4.1 gears. All the above gears are interchangeable between any model 78 diff (as you probably know).

I know that the 3.7 and the 3.9 gears are renowned for the whining problem, but haven't heard much about the 4.1's. In any event, I'd recommend getting hold of a new set if you can.

Re: 3.9:1 from wreckers?

Um I believe I've got an 80 series diff. The earlier E series may have has 78 series. Can anyone clear this up?
