3.9 Diff In EF I6 Auto

Im looking into getting my diff ratio changed to 3.9, has anybody had any experiences with this (eg. what will i rev at doing 100k, what other things would i have to change to make it all work like speedo sender etc.) the car is a 95 ef fairmont 4lt with wade 1004@112 cam, stainless lukey extractors, 2.5" lukey exhaust, bmc panel filter, au3 xr8 snorkle and has a shift kitted 4 speed auto.

also what kind of 1/4mile times would i be looking at with that setup with 3.9's

Re: 3.9 Diff In EF I6 Auto

ive got 411's as my diff ratio in my ef, speedo is out about 20km/h over. ive been lazy to get the speedo recalibrated cost about $30.
makes it get off hte line allot quicker and im still able to hit 180 kmh no problem. still revs ok, its like driving in 3rd gear at 100kmh with the old ratio
u may have to change ur diff housing like i did cos some difs u can and same u cant fit other ratios in

Re: 3.9 Diff In EF I6 Auto

my shifts were up the shit with 3.9's and the auto... no probs now cuz the auto has been gone for 6 months.

frdpwr, did you have to get a chip to sort out the shift patterns. I put different speedo gear in to correct the speedo.

Re: 3.9 Diff In EF I6 Auto

mine wouldnt change out of first gear unless i completely backed off. it would just bounce off the limiter, even if i didnt have it in power mode etc...

when i would nail it at 80km/h, it wouldnt know what to do, and it would just rev in neutral.

i thought you would have needed to get a chip that could reprogram the shift patterns as it now shifts at different road speeds...

frdpwr, Do you have a stock driveshaft? I was told for safety reasons not to go over 180Km/h with the stock diff ratio, which with the 4.11's is around 143Km/h as it is not safe to spin the driveshaft any faster.

Re: 3.9 Diff In EF I6 Auto

mmmmmmmm i know its not safe to go over 180kmh for the tailshaft but i never thought about the change the diff gears would make,
what u recon would happen??? tailshaft pop out? or twist it??

Re: 3.9 Diff In EF I6 Auto

so no one else has had problems with the gear changes on the autos with 3.9/4.11 diff ratios, i guess you could put a tailshaft loop on to make it a bit safer..
