Is it possible to convert the three speed EA 3.9l engine to a 4 speed auto or even a 5 speed manual? If so, is it expensive?

its deffinately do able, if you're going to do a transmission conversion then i'd deffinately go the manual, it can be costly but it all comes down to the parts, search the forums for past references to transmission conversions.
i know a lot of people on here have done it :)
don't know how much mechanical expertise you'd need though, or how much it is for a mechanic to do it.
sounds like you've already got plans for the ol' EA :D

I actually came back to apologize for cluttering up the forum with another thread. I'm usually pretty good like that, ie. do a search for a topic before posting about it, but sometimes I just get lazy and forget :)
