I just noticed (when driving next to a concrete barrier with the window open) that my falcon makes a ratting noise in 3rd gear only. It's not a speed related thing, only happens in 3rd gear it seems. If it wasn't for the noise (which can only be heard with the windows open) there are no other symptoms.... any ideas hear?
May be the input support bearing between the input and output shafts on the way out, or the tip of the mainshaft may be worn (common in XF/EA). Allows relative movement between the two, louder in third due to it being adjacent to third gear, fourth is straight through so no side load.
