hi ppl

just want to know how good is the EL fairmont ghia autos and what can be done to beef it up.

prob want to spend around $1500 bucks on it

leave it alone, unless its shaged, or your looking to put BULK (read 350rwkw+) power through it, service it and put a huge cooler on it and it will treat you fine.

Get a good cooler and replace the S5 solenoid with an adjustable AU one. This will make gear shifts much quicker resulting in lower trans temp and better life. Also make sure you service it as often as possible. Other than that, just get a mechanic to go through it and check everything is okay and maybe throw some better bands in it if you want.

how much is a S5 solidnoid installed?

It's about $300 installed from memory.

my box was reco'd a year ago, could they have put in a S5 solidnoise from an AU? If so is there anyway of telling?

They probably just used the stock, non-adjustable solenoid unless you asked for an adjustable one. The only way to tell is have a look, so next time you have it serviced ask the mechanic to see if it is adjustable or not.
