Just curious to know if the 3speed column shifter will link up to the 4speed box?
Obviously i cant have a 5speed put in, can I?
Also, if i remove the front bench seat in the car, will 2 single front seats bolt in?
i met a guy at Heathcote Drags a fortnight ago who ran a 4 speed top loader in a XM or XP Falcon & he retained the standard columb but had to fabricate the new linkage inside the tube

Not sure if a 3spd column will link to the 4spd box, but i know it works if its the other way around. And yes, you can put a 5spd box in, as there is a 5spd column shift. (But VERY hard to find).
Otherwise, you can just unbolt the bench seat and put bucket seats in. all the mounting points are the same. There should be a metal plate screwed in (like Jase said) under the carpet that covers the hole for the floor shifter. The only thing I can't remember is if the rear mounting bracket for the console is there or not. You may need to make a spacer (like a block of wood or something) for the rear of the console to sit on.
My Xg had the mounting points for the seat but as mentioned above
i had to make a wood block for the console.
But there was no removable area in the floor or even a mark indicating where to cut. I just sat the console in place and made my own hole went to a wrecker and cut out the hump from an XF and welded it into place. I also picked up a 4spd shifter from a EA and linkages which bolt straight onto the XF hump.
