My 4spd Auto just blewup, and i am thinking about putting a 5spd manual instead. Will this give me extra power?

Not so much extra 'power' (unless I'm using the term incorrectly) but much better performance and economy. The guys who have done it reckon it was the best performance mod they have done.

In comparison to the 4 speed automatic, the 5 speed manual wouldn't be likely to have any longevity problems either.

a manual allows u to use up every little bit of power, unlike an auto which with pritty much always slip, in the case of a 3 speed auto neway, a 4 speed has a lock up in 4th gear so that its fully locked up between like engine and gearbox a bit like a manual. so a manual is that way to go, i'm gonna put a manual in mah EA soon..

I've done the conversion, and although it is simple in theory, there can be complications. Be prepared to do work on the manual box after you've fitted it, unless you can test it in a car first(unlikely). It felt to me as if my car gained 20KW at the rear wheels with the manual (I had a 4 speed).
Next week I'm having a remap of the unichip, so I'll be able to compare manual to auto Kw on the dyno. There have been some other mods though, so it won't be a definitive test.
I really love the control and involvement of the manual- double de-clutching , being in the right gear going into a corner, and for braking.
