Question 4spd Auto in XT wagon?

Hi there!
I've got an XT wagon, and I'm considering putting in a 5litre Windsor from a late model Falcon (eg; ED-EF/L). I believe the block is still based upon the original Windsor, so fitment shouldn't be a problem there. However, I would also like to install a late-model electronic auto to go with it.
Can anybody tell me if this will bolt straight in? And if not, what mods will be needed?

Any help is appreciated.

Re: 4spd Auto in XT wagon?

G'day mate, & welcome to the forums!

A 4 speed auto will bolt straight up (same bellhousing, and is also compatible with clevelands). The ECU for the auto is stand-alone, but I'm afraid that's all I know :(

Hope someone can answer your questions better!

Re: 4spd Auto in XT wagon?

I just hope you don't hit a snag due to my advice. I must say that this is 2nd hand info coming from me... There are a lot of people on these forums who are much mroe knowledgable and have 1st hand experience at this...

As for "wiring up" the auto, I dunno how that'll go, but since the ECU is stand-alone, i doubt it needs to be integrated into too many (electronic) things, unlike the I6 auto which has its ECU integrated into the main ECU.

Good luck! And post the pix when you're done mate If I had an oldskool Ford, I'd put a 4 speed auto in it, that 4th gear is just awesome for cruising :)

Re: 4spd Auto in XT wagon?

you can get the AOD box from the US, no computer required, and from what I've read, it can take a bit more punishment than the late model 4sp Auto.

Re: 4spd Auto in XT wagon?

So the AOD has a bell housing (and input shaft) that'll match an old clevo or windsor? How about a six? (say a 250)

Where would I find info about this? Thanks...

Baumann Engineering in the States. You might want to recheck my spelling.
They have an awsome amount of gear and info, BUT, only on the Yank stuff.
The Aussie late model Windsor with 4 speed auto and all the goodies would
be the best way to go. No aftermarket controllers and other costly headaches.
I will be attempting the 4 speed auto conversion behind a clevo in an
XC ute, and based on all the info so far, the Aussie box and other bits
seem to be the most cost effective solution.
A late model Windsor with 4 speed auto, injection and even cruise in an
XT could signal the way of the future for our beloved old Ford iron.
Go for it and keep us all up to date!!
Good luck!!
Will.

Re: 4spd Auto in XT wagon?

Thanks for the sites + info guys! I really appreciate it

It's only academic info for me, as I have my hands full with the EB (which already has a 4 speed auto, albeit a different one), but it's great to learn all this stuff. Cheers!
